In June 2017, HE General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni launched the Presidential fast track initiative to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Uganda was the first sub-Saharan country to domesticate this UN General Assembly resolution adopted in Sept 2016.
Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) was established under the Office of the President by statute of parliament in 1992 to coordinate the multi-sectoral response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
