ORIENTATION MEETING FOR MEMBERS OF THE 11th PARLIAMENT

The Uganda AIDS Commission was established in 1992 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 208) with the overall mandate to coordinate the multi sectoral HIV and AIDS response across the country. Uganda AIDS Commission established the HIV/AIDS Partnership mechanism as a platform to bring together categories of stakeholders working in the area of HIV and AIDS at different levels in country. There has been progress in coordinating the HIV response across the Country using the Multi-Sectoral approach to the control of HIV. The Partnership Mechanism operates through 12 Self-Coordinating Entities (SCEs). An SCE is a Cluster of Stakeholders with a related approach in implementing HIV/ AIDS activities. Parliament is one of the SCEs in the Mechanism.. UAC has been working with the Parliament of Uganda to create a strategic niche across the different Committees. The Parliament Self-Coordinating Entity plays an essential role in the coordination of HIV and AIDS activities. Following the general elections in Uganda in 2021, national leaders were elected including Members of Parliament and local leaders up to village levels. Parliament of Uganda currently has 529 Members of Parliament.
